Michael Cusack's Mark Murphy and Ciara Breen captain NSW GAA to victory at the Australasia

October 09, 2012
The talent in Michael Cusack's GAA club Sydney was well highlighted last week at the Australasian GAA State Championships in Perth, where the best from all clubs within Australasia GAA play for their state in a week long tournament.

Cusack's were well represented across all NSW GAA teams in this year's competition. The strength of Michael Cusacks in the state of NSW in 2012 was clearly evident with former inter county stars Aonghus Callanan (Hurling - Liam Mellows, Galway) & Mark Murphy (Football - Derrylin, Fermanagh) captaining the hurling and football teams respectively, while Cusack's Ciara Breen (Ladies - Derrynoose, Armagh) and Caroline Kelly (Camogie - Davitts Camogie Club, Galway) were the ladies football and camogie captains.

It did not end there as Club chairman, Kiernan Olwell (Moynalty, Meath) coached the NSW ladies football team to victory.

Following a tough week of GAA action, all NSW teams progressed to the Championship Finals. NSW Camogs and Hurlers put up a good contest against Western Australia, but it was the host state that won out in the end. However, the Ladies and Men's Football teams maintained their unbeaten streak and lifted the silverware for the first time in over 5 years.

Six Cusack's players won Australasian All Stars - Daniel Whyte (Hurling - Mullagh, Galway) and Sarah Murphy (Camogie - Clonduff Camogie Club, Down) - as well as the four Cusack Captains!

Detailed coverage of the Australasian GAA Championship Finals can be read in the Irish Echo.
