Gormley walks away from Antrim

Antrim manager Jody Gormley
Jody Gormley has vacated his position as Antrim manager despite the Saffrons having just lifted the Tommy Murphy Cup last weekend. The Tyrone native had indicated that he'd be staying on as manager after last Saturday's win over Wicklow at Croke Park, but has clearly had a rethink and told the Antrim County Board today (Friday) that he will be stepping down from his position. County Board chairman John McSparron admitted to BBC Sport that he "wasn't surprised" by Gormley's decision. Antrim exited this year's Ulster SFC in the preliminary rounds to Cavan back in May, which sent them straight into the Tommy Murphy Cup, as they play their league football in Division Four, where they narrowly missed out on promotion which was another disappointment for Gormley. Former manager Brian White is being heavily linked to take over the Saffron post in the wake of Gormley's departure.
