Greene lauds Carlow support

July 28, 2008
Carlow hurling boss Jim Greene paid tribute to the Carlow fans for the part they played in last Saturday's semi-final win over Mayo at Castlebar. The Barrowsiders were trailing in the dying stages, but their faithful support kept urging them on right until the very end where in the last minute of the game they scored a goal to win the game and progress to the final. "I would give as much credit to the supporters for this win as the goal itself," admitted Greene. "They've made three long, costly trips three weekends in-a-row and the cheering coming from the stand kept the lads going and I've just told the players that now they know that it's not just about themselves, that the genuine Carlow hurling people are 100 per cent behind them." The Waterford native also added that albeit the goal may have been fortunate, they still deserved to win the game. "Okay we were, in a sense to get the late goal, a fortunate goal but we deserved it, we hit the post, hit the goalkeeper, had a ball taken off the line before we finally, thankfully got the winner."
