Option given to Carlow and Westmeath

July 29, 2008
The Central Competitions Control Committee of the GAA has confirmed that Carlow and Westmeath were given the option of playing the Christy Ring Cup Final as a curtain raiser to the All Ireland Football Quarter Final game involving Dublin in Croke Park. This is scheduled for Saturday, 9th August and would have guaranteed the game being played before a capacity attendance. Both counties refused this option. As there are two triple bills in Croke Park on Saturday and Sunday next weekend involving the Tommy Murphy and Nicky Rackard Cup Finals on respective days and as there will also be a triple bill at the stadium on Sunday, 10th August, there was no choice but to play the Christy Ring cup Final on Friday evening, 1st August if it was to be played at headquarters (the counties also got an option of playing the game in Portlaoise at7.00pm on Saturday next). Admission to Croke Park for the games next Saturday and Sunday is by ticket only. Tickets are available from participating County Boards, GAA.ie & Ticketmaster nationwide. Ticket outlets locations on match day are as follows: GAA Ticket Shop, North Circular Road (opposite Gill's pub), Bishop's Palace on Drumcondra Road, outside Martin Properties at the Dorset St. end of Whitworth Road & also on under the railway bridge on the Ballybough Road. Ticket prices are as follows; Stand ?30, Terrace ?20 (no concession on Terrace). Juveniles ?5 to stands (Juvenile must be accompanied by adult. Juvenile tickets are available for Davin Stand and designated sections of Cusack Stand Senior Citizens ?15 (Cusack & Davin Stands only. Concession refunds from Block D turnstiles to rear of Cusack Stand prior to entry. No refunds available after entry to stadium). Students ?15 (Cusack & Davin Stands only. Concession refunds from Block D turnstiles to rear of Cusack Stand prior to entry. No refunds available after entry to stadium). Attendance Figures Contrary to speculation earlier in the year attendance at the hurling and football championships have to date are in line with previous years in this decade. Attendance figures reveal that 966,722 supporters have attended the senior hurling and football championship games to date and the 1 million mark will comfortably be reached next weekend.
