Leitrim struggle with absentees
July 18, 2008
Leitrim manager Dessie Dolan is set to have a number of injuries and absentees for this Saturday's Tommy Murphy Cup clash with Clare at Ennis.
On the injury front, John McKeon (jaw), David McHugh (hamstring) and Michael Reynolds (hand) are all out of the Cusack Park encounter as too is Gary Reynolds, who is struggling to get back to fitness. Noel Gill, David O'Connor, Stephen Feeney and Gary McCloskey will also miss out due to both work commitments and holidays, and Dolan has indicated that he is not entirely sure what he is going to do with such a number of players ruled out for the game.
"To be honest, I'm sitting in a situation where I don't know what's going to happen. Training has been very poorly attended, we had 15 players training last Tuesday but we will be missing quite a few players on Saturday," admitted Dolan.
Dolan also conceded that once county players go back into the routine with their clubs after the Championship, it is tough to get them interested in the Tommy Murphy Cup
"Once players go back to their clubs, it is very difficult to get them back out and you can understand that. Players like training with their clubs, they get rooted into the club's system of training and there are very few of them who are interested in the Tommy Murphy Cup.
"Championship is Championship and unfortunately, we are not in it. Players are all up for the Championship and even with the Qualifiers, you can see that an awful lot of teams just aren't interested in it."
