Coady wants improvement for Kerry clash
July 17, 2008
Carlow captain Edward Coady has insisted that his side will need to improve on their defeat to Down last weekend in Tralee on Saturday if they want to remain in this year's Christy Ring Cup.
The Barrowsiders lost out to Down last Saturday after conceding three goals to the Mourne men, and following Kerry's recent goal-fest against Meath in Tralee, where the Kingdom put up 7-11 on the Royals, the Carlow skipper believes his side cannot have the same complacency for their visit down south.
"The Down game threw up some mixed thoughts, sure the fighting spirit was back in the second-half but you can't fight for 35 minutes and expect the other 35 to look after itself, especially playing the team the calibre of Down.
"You need to put away chances when they come your way, like a couple of half-goal attempts we had. That was the difference, they got the goals and we didn't.
"After Kerry's goal spree last week we need to tighten up our defence to keep them at bay and open up our attack to give guys room on the ball. All in all there were some positives from last weekend but we need to improve to beat Kerry in Tralee."
Kerry will host Carlow this Saturday, July 19, in the Christy Ring Cup quarter-finals with a throw-in time of 3.00pm scheduled at Tralee.
