Follow Emer and the girls to Carlow
July 11, 2008
Records for poor attendance at games seem to have been broken with those watching some ladies football inter-county games recently so Dominic Leech has made an appeal to Gaels and Non-Gaels of either sex to make the short journey over the border to Dr Cullen Park this weekend when Wicklow juniors take on Louth in the provincial decider.
Emer Miley who captains the side will be hoping that the long wait since 1990 has been worth it and she will no doubt remind her charges to keep playing as their colleagues did all those 18 years ago against Offaly when Teresa Manning's late extra time goal secured the title. The Wicklow management team of John O'Malley, Louise Allen, Dermot Murray and Mick O'Rourke are likely to have the girls in tip-top form for this historic encounter.
They will hardly be influenced by the fact that the Wee County benefited or perhaps didn't from one walk-over (from Carlow) in the course of their present campaign. Louth are sure to provide stern opposition and it has been heartening to see posters and billboards around the county urging fans to converge on Carlow and witness the strong possibility of a Leinster title for the Garden County.
