Mungret/St. Paul's shine at Feile finals
July 11, 2008
The highlight of last weekend's All-Ireland Feile Peil na nOg in Cavan from a Limerick point of view was undoubtedly the performances of the Mungret/St. Paul's girls side.
In fact, the city outfit made history by becoming the first ever Limerick club to reach the knockout stages of the Division 1 competition. They defeated Meath clubs Oldcastle and St. Ultan's in the group stage, as well as The Banner from Clare, to qualify for a semi-final meeting with Laois champions Mountmellick Sarsfields. But after an evenly contested first half, Mountmellick pulled away after the break for a 1-8 to 0-2 victory.
Fr Casey's represented Limerick in the boys competition, but failed to progress from Division 3. They recorded wins over host club (Lacken) and Erne Gaels, but a 2-3 to 1-9 loss to Portlaoise denied them a semi-final spot.
