The Intermediates secured their place in the semi final when they beat Mount Leinster Rangers last Saturday evening in Eire Og.
St Mullins played well through out the team with scores coming from many of the forwards and both midfielders in the first half. Chris Kavanagh, Willie Foley, Edward Kennedy, Christopher Kielthy, Philip Ryan and David Murphy scored a point each while Christopher Kielthy also scored a goal after being set up by Willie Foley who dispossessed the goalkeeper. Rangers played with a very strong wind in the first half and the St Mullins half back line coped well under big puck outs. Rangers got most of their scores from St Mullins errors and frees.
The half time score was 1-6 to 0-7 in favour of St Mullins. In the second half St Mullins took control of the game, aided by the strong wind and by the deadly accurate Willie Foley.
John Fenlon also won and cleared a lot of ball from the St Mullins half of the field. The St Mullins backs held the Rangers forwards well in the second half except for a brief lapse in concentration which resulted in a goal following a goalmouth scrap. Both midfielders were also very good for St Mullins. The final score was St Mullins 1-16 Mount Leinster Rangers 1-9.
Team: Pat Fenlon, Marty Grennan, Jim Kavanagh, John Murphy, Paul Murphy, John Fenlon, Andy Corcoran, Philip Ryan 0-1, Chris Kavanagh 0-1, David Murphy 0-1, Jamie McGrath, Edward Kennedy, Christopher Kielthy 1-2, Willie Foley 0-6, Richard Deegan 0-1. The footballers played Fighting Cocks in Bahana in the league on Monday evening. St Mullins played well in the first half and led at half time 1-4 to 0-4. Walter Coady, John Murphy, Willie Foley and Richard Deegan scored a point each while Walter Coady added a goal just before half time. Paul Murphy was harshly sent off at the beginning of the second half and this meant it was going to be an uphill struggle to hold on to the lead. St Mullins worked incredibly hard to make up for the extra man but poor decision making and wayward shooting on the opposition half let them down. Fighting Cocks were better at taking their scoring chances and finished up winners 2-8 to 1-8.
The full back line of Christopher Kielthy, Thomas Coady and Sean Murphy were very good while Sean Gahan and John Murphy worked tirelessly at midfield. Team: PJ McDonald, Sean Murphy, Thomas Coady, Christopher Kielthy, Paul Murphy, Stephen Barron, Seamus Gahan, Sean Gahan, John Murphy Ballinalour 0-2, Darren Whelan 0-1, Willie Foley 0-2, Michael Kehoe, Simon Byrne, Walter Coady 1-1, Richard Deegan 0-1. Subs: Paudie Kehoe 0-1 for Darren Whelan inj.
The Seniors played the second game of the All County Huyrling League against Ballinkillen in a very one sided affair in Bahana last Wednesday. St Mullins were short players due to injury and with the upcoming Intermediate semi final but were still able to field a very capable team.
Ballinkillen opened the scoring with a point in the first minute but St Mullins took control of the game after this and notched up 2-9 in the first half to Ballinkillen's 0-3. Ballinkillen looked to get more into the game in the third quarter but St Mullins took some decisive scores near the end of the game to leave the score 3-20 to 0-9 at the final whistle.
