McNaughton hoping for quarter-final place

July 01, 2008
Tyrone hurling boss Kevin McNaughton has indicated that his side have a great chance of making it to the Nicky Rackard Cup quarter-finals after their thrilling one-point victory over Donegal. The Red Hands put in an awesome second-half display on Saturday to pip Donegal by a single point on a score-line of 2-12 to 2-11 and take a foothold position in the group. A win over Frank Brady's Monaghan at Healy Park and the Red Hands will be through to the last eight of the competition, and McNaughton believes his side will have every chance if they can produce a performance like that of the one in the second-half against Donegal last weekend in Ballybofey. "We now have a chance of qualifying. Nothing's guaranteed, but this was a good stepping stone," said McNaughton. "We're looking for another win. We want to keep winning and keep the thing going. "I'm really proud of the way they played in the second-half. I would have questioned at half-time exactly what was going on, but the second-half was excellent."
