Zenith of the Tuam Stars
Sunday next, June 29th, marks a very important day in the story of the Tuam Stars with the unveiling of a framed copy of an article by the late Miko Kelly in the Tuam Stars Clubhouse. Miko was honorary Secretary of Tuam Stars during the "golden era" of football in Tuam in the decade 1952 to 1962. He penned his now famous article called the "Zenith of the Stars" for a G.A.A. Yearbook in 1964, a copy of which has recently come to hand, describing in great detail the triumphs and celebrations of the most successful decade in the Stars history. The original three pages of Miko's article, now framed and hanging in the Stars new Clubhouse at Dublin Road, will be formally unveiled on next Sunday evening. Most importantly, a big number of the players of that historic era will be in attendance for the function and will be formally honoured by officials of the Club.
Proceedings start at 7 p.m. with the celebration of Mass, followed by the unveiling and a meal. Then, no doubt, many a yarn will be exchanged by the players of the "golden era" many of whom will be meeting each other for the first time in many years. As it has been rather difficult to contact all the people who were involved, such a long time ago, it is important that anyone connected in any way with the team members during the historic era, who wishes to attend, should contact Neil O'Dea at 093 24565.
