Fermanagh fightback delights McElroy

June 22, 2008
Wing back Tommy McElroy was overjoyed at Fermanagh's sensational comeback against National League champions Derry which secured their place in the Ulster SFC final for the first time since 1982. The never-say-die Ernemen recovered from the concession of an early Eoin Bradley goal and a Derry penalty miss to triumph by 1-11 to 1-9 at Omagh and to move within 70 minutes of their first-ever senior provincial success. "It was very tight, but we got there in the end," McElroy said amid jubilant scenes immediately after the final whistle. "Our backs were to the wall for the last five minutes, but thankfully we held on. We pulled it back after a shaky start and it was a good win." After closing the gap to two points at the interval, McElroy stressed the importance of being first to score after the restart. "Mark Little got the first score of the second half - it was very important that we got that as it gave us the belief that we could go on and win."
