Cruciate blow for Bogue

June 19, 2008
Fermanagh defender Niall Bogue has been ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing his cruciate knee ligament. The Kinawley clubman, who didn't start the Ulster SFC quarter-final win over Monaghan but is widely regarded as one of the best man markers in the province, picked up the injury in a club game two weeks ago. "It's a big blow but we have to get on with it," said Erne County manager Malachy O'Rourke. Bogue is the second major loss to the Fermanagh defence this year, with All-Star full back Barry Owens having missed all of the season to date after undergoing heart surgery. Owens has recently returned to training and club action, however, and is expected to be named among the substitutes - which have yet to be finalised - for Sunday's Ulster semi-final against Derry. Another defensive option, Shane Lyons, is back in full training after recovering from a fractured cheekbone and is also expected to make the subs' bench.
