Munster JFC: Kerry hold on to secure final spot

June 15, 2008
Kerry 2-9 Clare 1-7 Kerry booked their place in the Munster JFC decider against old rivals Cork on Sunday afternoon as two first-half goals from the Kingdom proved the difference in overcoming Clare by five points in Killarney. Clare were unlucky not to have two goals of their own in the opening ten minutes after Kevin Larkin had hit the upright which was followed up moments later by Seamus Boland striking a glorious chance wide of the post. Kerry responded by hitting the net through Mike O'Donoghue on 19 minutes and full-forward Niall Fleming raising a second green flag to put the scores at 2-4 to 0-4 come the half-time whistle. The hosts came out for the second-half and with every intent of killing off the game with points from Conor Daly, O'Donoghue, Fleming and Anthony Maher, which saw them complete their scoring tally for the day with 13 minutes still left to play in the match. A Brian Donnellan penalty on 53 minutes cut the deficit down to five for the Banner men. Just moments later the Kingdom's defence conceded another spot-kick, but this time Donnellan's effort came of the post and the home side held on to take their place in the provincial final.
