Laois star Donie Kingston
Up-and-coming Laois football star Donie Kingston has threatened to withdraw his services from the county minor squad after his request for a club transfer was rejected.
Kingston, who won Leinster minor and under 21 medals with the O'Moore County last year, has been refused permission to join Arles-Killeen from Barrowhouse. He is adamant that he will never play for Barrowhouse again, accusing them of "not meeting commitments".
He said: "It's more of a protest I suppose because the trust was broken by Barrowhouse."
Kingston's father Richard elaborated: "Basically those officials asked the two lads (Donie and his brother Paul) to play with the Barrowhouse club. But Donal did ask 'what was the situation with senior football?'
"The three officials gave us a commitment that they would make senior football available to Donal."
In a statement, Barrowhouse replied by saying: "We made every effort to provide a senior football outlet for Donal. We approached both Courtwood and Annanough but unfortunately both clubs, after consideration, decided against entering a team."
