Mullinahone won't stand in Kelly's way
April 02, 2008
Tipperary star Paul Kelly has been given the green light by his home club Mullinahone to transfer to Kilkenny city outfit O'Loughlin Gaels.
Kelly has been an integral part of the Mullinahone senior side for the best part of a decade, but has decided to switch his allegiance to because he is now living in the Marble City.
The South Tipperary club received the transfer form from Croke Park last week, and have confirmed they won't be objecting to the proposed move.
"Obviously we're very disappointed to lose a player of Paul's calibre - double All-Stars don't grow on trees," said Mullinahone PRO Jackie Bolger.
"I know that Mullinahone is not that far away from Kilkenny city - about 16 miles - but Paul wants to make the move and it's only fair that we respect his wishes.
"He's achieved everything he could with us, including winning the Tipperary title, so now he wants to raise the bar higher by playing in the Kilkenny club championship, which we all know is of a very high standard.
"In fairness, Paul came to us before he applied for the transfer, so it wasn't as if we were in the dark about his intentions."
