Monaghan's Tommy Freeman
Monaghan have called on the GAA to investigate an alleged headbutting incident at the end of Sunday's drawn NFL clash with Dublin at Parnell Park. Farney County officials are claiming that their All-Star corner forward Tommy Freeman was assaulted by a steward after the final whistle of the game which saw Dublin's Mark Vaughan sent off for a high tackle on Damien Freeman. Monaghan chairman John Connolly confirmed that a complaint has been lodged with the Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) and have urged the GAA's disciplinary body to investigate the alleged incident. Freeman was seen holding his face at the end of the stormy clash, while it has also been reported that a number of his team-mates were accosted as they left the field. Wexford referee Syl Doyle, who required a garda escort, did not see the controversial incident. Connolly also blasted the decision to play the rearranged league fixture at the Donnycarney venue, citing the high amount of spectators who encroached the field at the end of the game. He said: "I asked Tommy after the game what happened and he said he was headbutted. At the end of the day, it's 15 men against 15, but this is beyond the parameters of the game. "I reported it to their officials yesterday. Dublin said they would investigate it themselves, but we felt we would contact the CCCC and we did that today (Monday). "I was very disappointed with the venue of Parnell Park. There were some young and not-so-young people on the field pushing into you. If anyone had have reacted somebody could have got seriously hurt. "There was abuse being shouted too which just wasn't on," the Monaghan official added.
