Commemoration weekend to light up Aghaloo

A who's who of top-drawer intercounty footballers, past and present, from the border counties will be the star attractions at this weekend's festivities in Aghaloo, county Tyrone in memory of the late Aidan McAnespie and Cormac McAnallen.
The weekend of sport, music and dance comes on the 20th anniversary of Aidan's death and will be an expansion of the commemoration of his killing ten years ago.
Put in train some eight weeks ago by a local ad-hoc committee, the plans for the commemoration activities sees everything kicking off with a Mass in St. Patrick's Church, Clara at 8pm tonight (Thursday, Feb 21st) with refreshments and a grand Ceili following afterwards at the Aghaloo GAA grounds.
On Friday at 9.30pm, a dance will take place in Quinn's Corner Pub and Restaurant, Ballygawley.
Saturday next will see various teams from counties Tyrone and Monaghan plus further afield cross swords at Aghaloo GAA Park.
Meanwhile on Sunday, the final of the underage competition will take place and then, at the monument marking the spot where Aidan McAnespie fell mortally wounded, a blessing will take place at 2.30pm.
Then the mother and father of football matches will get underway at approximately 3pm at the Aghaloo GAA Park with an Aidan McAnespie Team Boston selection taking on a Cormac McAnallen Team Sydney crew.
