Claffey considering Offaly return

February 21, 2008
Birr full back Niall Claffey has yet to make a decision on whether to accept a call back into the Faithful County senior squad. The 30-year-old, who was dropped from the county panel by John McIntyre last year, has been a revelation since switching from wing back to don the No.3 shirt for his club. As he prepares to face Dunloy in this weekend's All-Ireland club semi-final, the Leinster Club Hurler of the Year reveals: "I got a call back before Christmas. I got a text or something. I thought my days were over because the last manager said I retired due to work commitments, but that wasn't true. "I thought my days were over playing with the county. Then I got the call back in, but I haven't really thought about it too much because I've been playing and training away with Birr the whole time. "Time will tell whether I go back. I would like to think I could still do a job for the county. I'm not that old."
