Heavy suspensions hit Moorefield
December 04, 2007
Leinster Council has suspended two Moorefield players and stripped them of home advantage for the remainder of the Leinster club SFC following the melee in their quarter-final replay win over Dromard.
At its meeting last night the Leinster Council G.A.A. Hearings Committee confirmed the following proposals of the Leinster Competitions Control Committee arising from the AIB Leinster Club S.F.C. game - Moorefield v Dromard, played at Newbridge on 25/11/2007.
(a) That two Moorefield players viz James Lonergan and Kevin Murnaghan be suspended for four weeks in the same code and at the same level, inclusive of the next game in the same Competition of that Competition year even if the game falls outside the suspension time period.
(b) That Moorefield Club concede home venue(s) to their opponent(s) (i.e. Main County Grounds) in their remaining game(s) in AIB Leinster Club S.F.C. 2007.
This means that next Sunday's AIB Leinster Club S.F.C. Semi-Final - Moorefield v Tyrrellspass - will be played in Mullingar. Futhermore, if Moorefield qualify for the Leinster Club Final, against St Vincents, the game will be played in Parnell Park.
The Leinster Competitions Control Committee has also asked Moorefield to identify a substitute who appeared to contribute to a melee in the course of the same game.
The Leinster Competitions Control Committee has also proposed a number of sanctions against Dromard players and club but these have yet to be considered by the Leinster Hearings Committee.
