Ladies Football All-Star 2007 Nominations

October 30, 2007
Unsurprisingly, All-Ireland Champions Cork dominate the nominations for the 2007 O'Neills/TG4 Ladies Football All-Stars. The All-Star team will be announced at a ceremony in the CityWest Hotel in Dublin on Saturday, November 17. Amongst those Cork players shortlisted are midfield pair Juliet Murphy and Norita Kelly, sharpshooter Valerie Mulcahy and dual stars Rena Buckley and Briege Corkery. All-Ireland finalists and Connacht Champions Mayo are rewarded with six nominations despite being comprehensively beaten by Cork in the final. Those nominated include Championship top scorer Cora Staunton, inspirational full-back Helena Lohan and midfielder Claire Egan. Ulster Champions Armagh only get two nominations after exiting the Championship in the quarter finals at the hands of neighbours and Ulster runners up Tyrone who receive four. Leinster Champions Laois also get four nominations while Intermediate All-Ireland Champions Leitrim are rewarded with five nominations including veteran Maeve Quinn. Intermediate finalists Wexford get three nominations while Meath get three and Waterford pick up two. Dublin, Kerry, Galway, Kildare, Down and Monaghan all get a single nomination bringing the total number of counties to receive nominations to 13. There are no players from the Junior grade nominated. Announcing the nominations today, Ladies Gaelic Football President Geraldine Giles said; "Once again it was extremely difficult for the selection committee to narrow down the whole season to select 45 players.  "Cork were obviously the outstanding team in 2007 but the fact that every province and 13 counties are represented indicates the strength in depth of Ladies Football all over Ireland. I am particularly delighted that Intermediate counties Leitrim and Wexford received due recognition for their outstanding seasons and exciting final." The All-Stars ceremony will be shown on TG4.
