St. Pat's tops in Louth

September 24, 2007
Lordship outfit St. Patrick's captured their third Louth SFC title in five years with a three-point victory over local rivals Cooley Kickhams at St. Brigid's Park. St. Patrick's………1-9 Cooley Kickhams...0-9 A goal from a Karl White penalty in the seventh minute ultimately proved decisive as St. Pat's repeated their 2004 county final success over their neighbours. St. Pat's were leading by 0-2 to 0-1 when former goalkeeper Sean Connor - who has been operating at full forward in recent games - was fouled in the square and White made no mistake from the spot-kick. The Lordship men went on to lead by 1-6 to 0-6 at half-time, but Cooley were much improved in the second half and struck the post on no less than three occasions. But Pat's, for whom county player Ray Finnegan was outstanding, were the better team overall and deserved their victory which earns them a crack at the Laois champions in the Leinster club championship. St. Pat's county star Paddy Keenan said: "We came here expecting a tough game but there was no real ugliness over the 60-plus minutes and I though we were the better side."
