Kilkenny await Limerick or Waterford

August 07, 2007
Kilkenny have booked a place in the Guinness All-Ireland hurling final for the 8th time in ten years and now the big question is who will join them? Will it be Limerick who are bidding to reach the final for the first time since 1996? Or will it be Limerick who last reached the final back in1963? The answer will be provided in Croke Park on Sunday when the pair meet in the semi-final at 4pm. It will be a repeat of this year's Munster final which Waterford won by 3-17 to 1-14 in Thurles last month. PATHS TO THE SEMI-FINAL LIMERICK Limerick 1-19 Tipperary 1-19 Limerick 1-24 Tipperary 2-21 (Replay - After extra-time) Limerick 0-22 Tipperary 2-13 (2nd replay - After extra-time) Waterford 3-17 Limerick 1-14 (Munster final) Limerick 1-23 Clare 1-16 (All-Ireland quarter-final) Limerick scorers: Andrew O'Shaughnessy 0-32; Michael Fitzgerald 1-14; Ollie Moran 0-14; Niall Moran 0-10; Kevin Tobin 0-8; Brian Geary 0-5; Donie Ryan 1-2; Patrick Tobin 1-2; Brian Begley 1-2; Mike O'Brien 0-3; Barry Foley 0-3; Donal O'Grady 0-3; James O'Brien 0-3; Mark Foley 0-1. LAST CLASH: Waterford 3-17 Limerick 1-14 ( 8 July 2007 - Munster Final, Thurles) Waterford won easily in the end but the final result does no justice to Limerick's gallant effort for an hour which was reached with Waterford leading by two points, 1-14 to 1-12. However, a Dan Shanahan goal (he scored 3-3 in all) set Waterford on their way for a finishing burst in which they out-scored Limerick by 2-3 to 0-2 over the final ten minutes. It was all very different to the first hour which was extremely tight. The sides were level four times in the first half before Seamus Prendergast's point gave Waterford an 0-9 to 1-5 (Brian Begley had scored Limerick's goal in the 7th minute) lead at half-time. Limerick pointed three times in the first seven minutes of the second half before Waterford fought back to draw level in the 48th minute. Limerick went ahead again but Shanahan's first goal in the 52nd minute gave Waterford a lead they held all the way to the finish. Scorers: Waterford: Dan Shanahan 3-3, Eoin Kelly 0-4 (0-2 frees), John Mullane 0-3, Stephen Molumphy 0-2, Paul Flynn 0-2 (0-1free), Ken McGrath 0-1 (free), Eoin McGrath 0-1.
