Wexford football manager Paul Bealin played his first senior game for his club Ballyboden St. Enda's in five years recently, but insists that it was a one-off. The former Dublin midfield star, who is 39, made a surprise appearance for the club in a senior league fixture against local rivals Thomas Davis and showed that he has lost none of his old class by grabbing 1-1. But he stressed afterwards that it was all about helping out rather than making a full return to senior club action. "I'd been playing a couple of matches with the juniors and the seniors were down a few players so I was asked to help out," he explained. "Thomas Davis are taking the league seriously now that they're out of the championship so it was a tough enough reintroduction to that level. I enjoyed it and it went well enough for me, but there's no way I could do it in the long term. "They've asked me to stay involved for the senior championship but it was just a bit of fun for me and I couldn't give them the commitment required at that level." Bealin will hope to guide Wexford to their first All-Ireland junior football title since 1992 when they face Cork in the decider at Dungarvan on Friday night.
