Tipp ace Browne retires

Two time All Star Declan Browne has retired from intercounty football action, bringing an end to an out outstanding career in the colours of Tipperary. Browne, who turned 29 last month, first came to prominence on the Tipperary minor football side which claimed the Munster title in 1995. A dual player, the Moyle Rovers star went on the win an All-Ireland MHC the following year, featuring as a substitute in the drawn final before the Premier County saw off Galway in a replay. He soon progressed onto the senior football side making his debut against Kerry in '96 and was named Munster Football of the Year in 1998 as he helped his county to the provincial decider with some stunning displays. The Kingdom saw off the Browne inspired Tipperary by 0-17 to 1-10 in the final and at the year's end he became his county's first football All Star. Over the next number of years Browne was a dual star with the county, helping himself to Munster U21HC title in 1999 and featuring for a while on Nicky English's senior team, before deciding to commit himself to football. A second Munster final defeat followed in 2002 but the attacker did win silverware in 2003 when Tipp claimed the McGrath Cup, a year in which Browne claimed a second All Star award. In 2005 the Moyle Rovers man captained his county to Tommy Murphy Cup success in Croke Park.
