Gordon passed fit for Down

June 08, 2007
Dan Gordon has recovered from a hand injury to take his place in the Down team for Sunday's Ulster SFC quarter-final against Monaghan at Newry. The towering Loughinisland clubman's participation had been in doubt after he suffered a hand injury in the preliminary round replay win over Cavan, but has recovered in time to take his place at midfield. However, Gordon's midfield partner in that game, Paul Murphy, who suffered a similar injury against Donal Keoghan's charges, has failed to make it and his place is taken by Jackie Lynch. Another enforced change sees John Clarke replace the injured Dan McCartan in defence. McCartan is ruled out with bruised ribs sustained in the Cavan replay and Clarke, who is better known as wing back, comes in for him at right corner back. There is no place in attack for rising star Paul McComiskey, despite impressing as a substitute in the two games against the Breffnimen. Down (SF v Monaghan): M McVeigh; J Clarke, D Rooney, K McGuigan; R Murtagh, B Grant, M Cole; D Gordon, J Lynch; J McGovern, A Carr, R Sexton; D Hughes, P Downey, B Coulter.
