Carmody's Clare future in doubt

April 19, 2007

Tony Carmody
Speculation is rife that Tony Carmody has opted out of the Clare hurling panel after he missed two training sessions this week. The Inagh forward did not show up for training sessions on Monday and Tuesday, prompting speculation that he has quit Tony Considine's squad. Carmody was replaced during the second half of Clare's drawn NHL game against Offaly on March 25 and did not attend training the following week. He came on as a substitute against Cork in their final league game. Last Sunday week, Carmody lined out for local soccer club Tulla United, which suggests that the talented centre forward isn't injured. If it transpires that Carmody has left the panel, it will come as a massive blow to the Banner County ahead of their Munster SHC first round clash with Cork on May 27. Tony Considine's short reign as manager has been dogged by a series of controversies, most notably the continued absence of goalkeeper Davy Fitzgerald from the squad.
