'Beano' regrets early return

April 03, 2007
Laois star Brian 'Beano' McDonald has admitted that he returned to football too soon after his horrific leg break in the 2004 All-Ireland qualifier against Tyrone. The Arles-Killeen attacker was back playing inter-county football within a matter of months of sustaining the injury, something he nows feels wasn't the right thing to do. "At the time, I didn't really know it would take a good year to get back to playing as good as I was doing. In hindsight, I came back a bit soon," he said at a press call ahead of Sunday's crucial NFL Division 1B clash with Kildare. "I came back three and a half months after I broke it, doing a light bit. The following couple of years I wasn't playing as well as I would have liked but I'm hopeful now. "I missed a lot of winter training with pain in the leg now and again so this year is probably the first year back that I've been able to do all the training since we started so hopefully that's just a memory now. "I'm getting no trouble with it at the minute so hopefully it will stay that way," he added.
