Henry Shefflin Kilkenny
Kilkenny have been rewarded for their All-Ireland and National League winning heroics by receiving 13 All-Star hurling nominations. All but three of the All-Ireland winning team - captain Jackie Tyrrell, Michael Kavanagh and Richie Power - are in contention for awards. JJ Delaney, who missed the All-Ireland final through injury, also makes the shortlist, while Henry Shefflin is in line to pick up his sixth All-Star. The winners will be announced live on RTE at the All-Stars banquet on November 24 in Dublin's CityWest Hotel. Nine counties are represented on the list with 11 players from beaten All-Ireland finalists Cork included. Waterford have eight nominations, while Davy Fitzgerald, Frank Lohan, the recently-retired Seanie McMahon, Tony Carmody and Tony Griffin are the Clare players included. After that, Laois, Galway, Offaly and Limerick all have one nomination each. They are represented by James Young, Damien Hayes, Joe Bergin and Damien Reale respectively. Interestingly, six players who were nominated for the GPA Team of the Year awards - Keith Rossiter, Gerry O'Grady, Sean Og O hAilpin, Timmy McCarthy, Andrew Mitchell and Mark Foley - have failed to receive All-Star nominations. Nine of last year's hurling All Stars - Davy Fitzgerald, Diarmuid O'Sullivan, John Gardiner, Jerry O'Connor, Ben O'Connor, Shefflin, Walsh, Eoin Kelly and Damien Hayes - are again nominated. The county breakdown is: Kilkenny (13), Cork (11), Waterford (8), Clare (5), Tipperary (4), Laois (1), Galway (1), Offaly (1), Limerick (1).
