There was widespread shock and disbelief on Saturday evening 13th May at the sudden and untimely death of long serving Denn footballer, Paddy Gaffney following a league fixture against Kingscourt Stars in St. Matthews Park, Crosskeys. He had just returned from a trip to Australia with the Irish Master team - a trip that he thoroughly enjoyed in the company of a number of his close friends. The late Paddy had a long and distinguished career with the Denn club, giving them tremendous service as a player and official down the years. He was also a member of the Cavan senior county junior and senior sides, and down the years was rated one of the best club footballers in the Breffni county. A tremendous sportsman and lover of GAA games and activities, Paddy was to the forefront of all activities organised by his beloved club, Denn over the years, and nothing was too big or small for the affable Paddy in helping to improve the fortunes of Denn football at all grades. He will be sorely missed by his many friends in the Denn GFC, and indeed GAA followers throughout the Breffni county and further afield. People of the calibre of the late Paddy are hard to replace, and his loss will be sorely missed as the Denn club go forward in the years ahead. Sympathy is extended to his wife Beatrice; daughters Carol and Sandra, his extended family and also to the members and followers of his much loved Denn football club.
