Kerrigan shines as Nemo book final spot
November 28, 2005
Nemo Rangers……1-14
Stradbally…………0-10
Nemo Rangers are through to another Munster club football championship final after they comfortably disposed of Waterford champions Stradbally at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
And star of the show for the home side was young Paul Kerrigan, son of former Cork and Nemo star Jimmy, who scored 1-5 in a breathtaking display. It was all too much for Stradbally who, despite finishing strongly, were never really in the game.
Nemo dominated in virtually every line, and never looked back after Alan Cronin registered the opening score in the third minute. Points from Kerrigan, David Niblock and James Masters had them 0-6 to 0-1 in front after 16 minutes and Kerrigan's goal in the 21st minute helped extend their advantage to 1-9 to 0-4 at the break.
Following the restart, Nemo eased into a 1-13 to 0-4 lead thanks to further scores from Masters, Niblock, Kerrigan and substitute Michael Kearney.
After John Hearne scored their first point from play in the 46th minute, Stradbally grew in confidence and five points in-a-row from the unerring Niall Curran saw them eat into the Nemo lead. But fittingly, Kerrigan had the final say as the Cork champions progressed to the final where they will meet St. Senan's of Kilkee.
