Albert Shanahan at Poc Fada
Limerick's Albert Shanahan bagged his second All-Ireland Poc Fada title after he fought of the challenge of Wexford goalkeeper Damien Fitzhenry. The Shannonsider finished the Annaverna mountain course in 58 pocs, the same number as Fitzhenry. However, the 2001 winner claimed the title as his last poc was 17 metres over the finishing line, seven metres further than Fitzhenry's final effort. Niall Quinn participated in the event and finished last while the camogie crown also went to Munster as Clare's Denise Lynch was crowned Queen of the mountains.
