Roe bonus dismissed

Pat Roe Wexford
An alleged request from Wexford football boss Pat Roe for a bonus payment for bringing his side to the NFL final has been described as 'tongue in cheek' by County Board Chairman Sean Quirke. The alleged request for ?5,000 if Wexford won the final and ?3,000 if they were beaten showed up in the minutes of a Wexford Management Committee meeting. However, the request was withdrawn by Roe before the meeting took place. Any payments to players or managers are illegal under GAA rules but Quirke has watered down the issue by claiming that it was just 'loose talk.' "I'm sure it was something said tongue in cheek by Pat. It was nothing. We hardly even discussed it. Pat wasn't bothered about when we raised it," said Quirke.
