Rebels advance to minor semi-final

April 28, 2005
Cork 0-9 Limerick 1-3 Cork recovered from a poor start to qualify for the Munster minor football semi-final at Limerick's expense in the heavy rain at the Gaelic Grounds on Wednesday night, April 27. Limerick more than matched Cork, but dreadful finishing cost them victory. The Shannonsiders couldn't have asked for a better start when Michael Curtin scored the only goal in the third minute. But after a serious leg injury to Limerick ëkeeper Ger Ryan delayed play for eight minutes, Cork forwards David Kearney and Ricky Kenny notched points to haul them onto level terms, 0-5 to 1-2, at half-time. Right corner forward Kenny gave the visitors the lead for the first time in the 46th minute. Further points from Kenny, Sean Kiely and Eric Hegarty stretched their lead to four points and, although Ger Collins pulled back a point for Limerick, it was the Rebels who advanced to a semi-final meeting with Tipperary in June. Scorers - Cork: R Kenny 0-3, D Kearney 0-2, C O'Neill, C O'Driscoll, S Kiely and E Hegarty 0-1 each. Limerick: M Curtin 1-1, E Ryan and G Collins 0-1 each.
