Hunt resigns from Royal post

John Hunt
Meath hurling boss John Hunt has become the first managerial casualty of the season following his decision to resign in the wake of last Sunday's humiliating National League defeat to London.
The Clare native met with the Meath hurling board in Trim on Wednesday night, February 23 to inform them of his decision. Team trainer Eamon Cregan - who guided Offaly to All-Ireland glory in 1994 - has also stepped down.
Hunt was appointed as manager at the start of last season amid a mood of great optimism, but things soon turned sour with many of the county's best hurlers refusing to play for him.
"At this point we can only confirm that John Hunt is gone, I wouldn't like to say anything more about it at this stage," Meath hurling secretary Enda Smith said.
"We would like to thank him sincerely for all the hard work that he did for Meath because he was very dedicated to the job while he was here."
