Master Fixtures 2005

The GAA have released their Master Fixtures plan for 2005, incorporating all intercounty senior championship and Allianz league fixtures for the coming year. The Allianz football league will commence on Friday, February 4th when Cork will play Kerry under floodlights at Páirc Uí Rinn. On Saturday, February 5th, Dublin will meet Mayo in Parnell Park in the first ever league game under lights at the venue. The remainder of the first round games will be played on Sunday, February 6th. The Allianz Hurling league will begin on February 20th. Reigning champions Galway will start their campaign at home to Dublin. All Ireland champions Cork also have a home game against Limerick while last year's beaten league finalists Waterford will play beaten All Ireland finalists Kilkenny in Waterford. The Allianz league finals will take place on the same weekend in May, with the football final scheduled for Sunday, May 1st and the hurling final on Bank Holiday Monday, May 2nd. However, should Galway be involved in the football final, it will be played on April 26th with the Hurling final moving to May 1st as Galway are due to play in the first fixture of the 2005 Bank of Ireland football championship against New York on May 1st. In keeping with the changes to the hurling championship structures, there will be three tiers in this year's hurling championship. 12 teams will participate in the Guinness Hurling championship - Kilkenny, Wexford, Offaly, Dublin, Laois, Cork, Tipperary, Limerick, Waterford, Clare, Galway and Antrim. The tier 2 championship will feature Roscommon, Mayo, Westmeath, Meath, Kildare, Wicklow, Carlow, Kerry, Derry and Down. Tier 3 will include Silgo, Leitrim, Longford, Louth, Fermanagh, Monaghan, Cavan, Tyrone, Donegal, Armagh, London and possible Warwickshire. (format of hurling championship attached in word document) In the Bank of Ireland football championship, it was confirmed that the beaten Provincial finalists will not be obliged to play in Round 4 of the qualifiers within thirteen days of their provincial final. The All Ireland semi-finals and final of the U-21 football championship have been brought forward from September/October to April/May this year,with the semi-finals scheduled to take place on April 30th and the All Ireland final on May 8th. All Ireland Hurling Championship Tier I The Championship shall be organised as follows:- Counties Participating Twelve Counties shall participate in the Championship (initially the Counties participating in Roinn 1 of the National Hurling League 2004). Qualifier Entries (Eight Counties) First Round Losers in Leinster & Munster Championships (two teams) Losing Semi-Finalists in the Leinster and Munster Championships (four teams), Galway and Aontroim (in 2005). In subsequent years, the Counties participating shall be all the teams eligible for Tier 1 except those that reach the Leinster and Munster Finals. Groups (2) Two Groups of four teams drawn with a maximum of two Teams from Munster and Leinster in each Group. Each County in a Group shall meet each other i.e. each Teams shall play three games. The following Counties are designated teams and shall have two home games in the Group stage provided their Home Grounds meets the criteria. In the event of an equality of points, all finishing positions shall be determined firstly by Scoring Difference and then the highest score for and then the result of the game, which involved the two Counties shall be used. Venues/Designated Counties Designated Counties (determined by GAC) shall have two Home Games in the Group Stage provided their Home Grounds meets the criteria. Quarter-Finals (i) Leinster Champions v Second Placed Team in one Qualifier Group (ii) Munster Champions v Second Placed Team in the other Qualifier Group (iii) Leinster Championship Runners Up v First Placed Team in One Qualifier Group. (iv) Munster Championship Runners Up v First Placed Team in the other Qualifier Group A Draw shall be made to determine who each of the 'First Placed Teams and each of the 'Second Placed' Teams shall meet. Semi-Finals Leinster and Munster Provincial Champions or the team who beats them shall be drawn against the other two Quarter-Final Winners. All Ireland Final Relegation and Promotion The Four Counties in the Qualifier Competition that do not qualify for the All Ireland Quarter-Finals shall play a series of Relegation games. (i) 3rd Placed Team Group 1 v 4th Placed Team Group 2 (ii) 3rd Placed Team Group 2 v 4th Place Team Group 1 (iii) Losing Team in (i) and (ii) above to play a Relegation Final. The Losing Team in the Relegation Final shall be relegated to Tier 2, and Tier 2 Champions shall be promoted to Tier 1. The existing arrangement for Qualification for Tier III would continue. Equality of Points A County's finishing position is on the basis of points total. In the event of an equality of points, all finishing positions shall be determined firstly by Scoring Difference and then the highest score for and then the result of the game, which involved the two Counties shall be used. Venues The games to be played on a Home and Away basis, up to and including the All Ireland Semi-Finals. All Ireland Quarter-Finals The Runners Up in each of the Groups of four shall play an All Ireland Quarter-Final and the winners qualify for an All Ireland Semi-Final All Ireland Semi-Finals Winners of reach Group, together with the Winners of the All Ireland Quarter-Final between the Runners Up in the two Groups of Four shall qualify for the All Ireland Semi-Finals. Semi-Final pairings determined on an open draw basis, with the Counties from the same group being kept apart. All Ireland Final The Final shall be played at a time and venue as commensurate with its status as an All Ireland Final.
