The Ireland panel for the forthcoming Coca Cola International Rules series against Australia has been announced by manager Pete McGrath. The 26 man panel features two current Australian Rules players in Carlton's Setanta O hAilpín and Tadhg Kennelly of Sydney Swans. Three players from Kerry's All Ireland winning team are included while Dublin and beaten All Ireland finalists Mayo also supply three players each. Surprisingly, Tomas O Se is included, despite being ruled out with a broken jaw. Ciaran McDonald is also included after making a quick recovery from a hamstring injury. The full panel is: - Stephen Cluxton Brian Cullen Alan Brogan Dublin Stephen Mc Donnell Philip Loughran Armagh Tomás Ó Sé Eoin Brosnan Paul Galvin Kerry Tadhg Kennelly Kerry/Sydney Swans Setanta O hAilpín Cork/Carlton Sean Óg Ó hAilpín Graham Canty Cork Brendan Coulter Down Ciaran Mc Donald James Nallen David Heaney Mayo Sean Martin Lockhart Derry Ciaran Mc Manus Offaly Declan Browne Tipperary Mattie Forde Wexford Tom Kelly Laois Padraig Joyce Joe Bergin Galway Brian Mc Guigan Sean Cavanagh Tyrone Dessie Dolan Westmeath The stand by players are:- Mickey Mc Veigh Down Denis Glennon Rory O Connell Westmeath Martin Mc Grath Fermanagh Fourteen counties in all are represented and a total of thirteen of the 26 man squad have yet to play for Ireland in the International Rules series. Of the remaining thirteen, Sean Martin Lockhart of Derry and Ciaran Mc Manus of Offaly have each played for Ireland on ten occasions while Galway's Padraig Joyce has featured seven times for his country. Sean Martin Lockhart and James Nallen are the only survivors from the 1998 series when the International Rules test games were revived after an eight-year lapse. Mo Durkan, Public Affairs and Communications Manager, Coca-Cola Bottlers Ireland said: "whilst we congratulate the players selected this afternoon to represent Ireland in the two Test Series, the calibre of the players that did not make the final panel indicates the strength of the Irish squad. We are also delighted that Padraig Joyce has overcome his injury and his return is a huge boost to the whole squad." Mr Sean Kelly, President of the GAA, said that the squad represented a fusion of the necessary attributes required to represent Ireland in the International Rules series against Australia. He added that the fact that fourteen counties are represented and that there are thirteen new players included is an indication of the efforts that Manager Pete Mc Grath and his selection team have gone to in ensuring that every potentially suitable player was considered. Mr Kelly said that the International Rules series had created its own niche and had captured the public imagination, as was evident by the fact that over 115,000 people attended the series in Croke Park in 2002 and that there were close to full attendances in Australia last year. Television stations Fox Footy, Channel 9 and Channel 7, radio station 3AW and correspondents from the Herald Sun, The Age and the Australian Associated Press (Australia's largest independent news provider) will be among those traveling with the Australian team who are scheduled to arrive in Dublin Airport tomorrow morning at 9am.
