A giant Dublin GAA banner spanning the width of the Ha'penny Bridge has been permanently removed after Dublin City Council found it was in breach of planning guidelines.
The Green Party and the Dublin Civic Trust had led calls to have the controversial banner taken down after it had been put up every time after Dublin's recent All-Ireland and Allianz League successes.
The banner, which read 'Up the Dubs, Dublin City supporting The Dubs', was described as "tacky" by Green Party leader Eamonn Ryan, while Dublin Civic Trust, an independent charitable organisation working to recognise and protect the city's architectural heritage and civic potential, said it was"completely inappropriate".
It first appeared on the iconic bridge after the Dubs won the Sam Maguire in 2011 after a lapse of 16 years.
