Kilmaley's defeat in the Clare U21HC final on Saturday evening was put into perspective when one of their rising stars died in a road accident a few hours later.

Eighteen-year-old Oisin Cahill was killed and two of his club-mates, Darragh Killeen (19) and Enda Hickey (22), were seriously injured in the single-vehicle collision just outside Ennis at around 4.20am on Sunday. Oisin and Darragh were members of the Kilmaley panel which lost the U21HC 'A' final to Inagh/Kilnamona by 1-14 to 1-18 at Cusack Park.

"Oisin was an up-and-coming star," Kilmaley chairman Kieran Murphy told the Irish Sun.

"He was part of the panel for our 21s team in the final on Saturday. He was a really talented boy. Everyone is in shock. He was part of the panel in the final . . . and then to lose his life.

"He was mad into his farming and often came to training in the tractor."

We extend our sympathy to the Cahill family at this difficult time.
