Death of former Laois footballer Pat Brophy

Pat Brophy RIP.

Laois GAA is mourning the death of former teak-tough defender Pat Brophy following an illness.

The Emo clubman was centre half back when the O'Moore County dethroned the reigning champions Monaghan on a 2-6 to 2-5 scoreline to win only their second ever National Football League title in 1986. He served as a player, manager and chairman of his club and also managed Emo's neighbours The Heath.

Pat is survived by his wife Chrissy, sons Darren, Glen, Colm and Patrick, daughters Aisling and Emma grandchildren, relative, neighbours and friends.
