2015 All Star goalkeeper Brendan Kealy has quit the Kerry senior football squad over a lack of game time in this year's championship.

The Kilcummin shot-stopper is believed to have held discussions with Kingdom boss Eamonn Fitzmaurice after having missed out on the team's Munster SFC final victory over Cork, with Fitzmaurice opting for Killarney Legion's Brian Kelly between the posts instead.

Kelly also started in the provincial semi-final win over Clare last month and on Tuesday night Shane Ryan (Rathmore) and Shane Murphy (Dr Crokes) took part in the Munster champions' training session and will now be vying to provide cover for Kelly.

31-year-old Kealy, who started in his county's Division 1 final victory over Dublin in April, made his Kerry debut during the 2010 National League, earning a Celtic Cross in 2014 and five Munster crowns during his inter-county career.
