Paul McIver is tipped to be the next Derry football manager.

The Derry-based schoolteacher is currently in charge of Kilcoo, who are chasing a six-in-a-row of Down SFC titles this year. He has previously been involved with the Oak Leafers at U21 level and also with his native Ballinderry. His father Brian managed Derry from 2012 to 2015 and is currently the county's Director of Football.

1993 All-Ireland winning captain Henry Downey, who has managed his club Lavey, is another who is being mentioned as a possible successor to Damian Barton, whose two-year term ended following last Saturday's championship exit at the hands of Mayo.

Legendary midfielder Anthony Tohill, who managed the Irish International Rules team a few years ago, is also seen as a candidate for the vacancy.
