Carr slams refereeing standards

March 25, 2004
Roscommon manager Tom Carr reckons that poor refereeing standards will eventually force him to quit the game. The former Dublin boss made his comments in the wake of Roscommon's National League defeat to Offaly last weekend - a game which was refereed by Down official Colm Broderick. "The standard of refereeing will drive me out of the game eventually," he blasted. "I have to say I was really disappointed with some of the decisions given against us on Sunday. It wasn't the reason we lost the game - Offaly were simply better than us. But it didn't help, and there was no rhyme nor reason to some of his calls." Despite the defeat, which effectively put paid to Roscommon's promotion hopes, Carr was far from downbeat. "It doesn't worry me that we failed this particular test. We passed some of them last year. It's not as if the team feel they can't pass these sort of tests. It's more that the team feel that they didn't play well enough to win the game and that's the bottom line," he said. "I don't think this result will be a reflection on the rest of the year. The championship date with Sligo is the important one now and we'll prepare as well as we can for that particular game."
