There is more bad news for Cork hurling today with confirmation from manager Kieran Kingston that Mark Ellis sustained a broken arm in Saturday night's heavy defeat to Dublin.
The Millstreet defender will undergo surgery tomorrow and is expected to be sidelined until the summer.
"It's another shocking blow for us, coming on the back of the long-term injury to Colm Spillane and the expectation is that he will be out for some time and might even be a doubt for the championship game with Tipperary," Kingston told the Evening Echo.
Cian McCarthy is also currently sidelined with a broken thumb and finger, while Aidan Walsh is facing a race against time to be fit for next weekend's must-win game against All-Ireland champions Kilkenny.
"Cian broke his thumb in a club game with Sars and didn't know about it for a few days while he broke his finger in training with us last week. That's another blow but at least he won't be unavailable as long as Mark," Kingston continued.
"Aidan Walsh had an operation on his nose injury but he remains on the doubtful list for next Saturday night against Kilkenny, while Alan Cadogan remains suspended for that game."
