An estimated €70,000 worth of damage was caused to the Moy Davitts GAA club in Mayo by the recent floods.
Club members could only access the redeveloped Foxford ground - voted Mayo's Best GAA Ground two years ago - by tractor after the nearby River Moy burst its banks.
"All we could see was a lake and the clubhouse sticking up from the water. The members were devastated," club official Michael Ruane told the Western People.
"During the summer, the club had spent €35,000 on slit drains, on top of almost €150,000 already spent on developing the pitches in the last couple of years.
"It's difficult to put a figure on the cost, but you could be talking up to €40,000 on the pitch alone and we've been given an estimated €35,000 for the clubhouse. We're scratching our heads wondering where to start.
"There is no choice now but to mount a fundraising drive to replace the damage done, including expensive shower pumps and fittings along with the floors and kitchen units in the clubhouse."
