There are reports that Danny Sutcliffe has withdrawn from the Dublin hurling squad.

The Irish Independent understands that the St. Jude's clubman won't be involved with Ger Cunningham's squad next year. If the reports are true, it would be a huge blow to the Dubs, who are keen to make amends for a disappointing 2015 in which they suffered a heavy Leinster SHC quarter-final replay defeat to Galway before losing to Waterford at the All-Ireland quarter-final stage.

The news will shock Dublin hurling fans after Sutcliffe had travelled to Boston with the squad for the Fenway Hurling Classic two weeks ago. A student at DCU, the 23-year-old attacker received an All Star award after playing a starring role in Dublin's historic Leinster SHC success two years ago.

The reasons for Sutcliffe's reported departure are not yet known.
