Cuala 3-14
St. Jude's 0-13
Cuala have been crowned Dublin senior hurling champions for the first time since 1994 and fourth time in all thanks to a 10-point victory over St. Jude's at Parnell Park this afternoon.
Brothers David and Sean Treacy scored 2-8 between them to help the Dalkey-based club to a long overdue success and consign Jude's to back-to-back county final defeats. David posted seven points from frees, while younger brother Sean raised green flags in either half.
Despite losing county defender Paul Schutte to injury before the game, Mattie Kenny's Cuala were never headed after Treacy scored the first of his goals in the 19th minute. They led by five points before Joe McManus and Ronan Joyce pulled back scores to leave Jude's - who were seeking their first title - trailing 0-7 to 1-7 at the interval.
Further scores from Danny Sutcliffe and Jessy Kennedy reduced the deficit to the minimum early in the second half, but Cuala regained control when Colm Cronin fired home their second goal to restore their five-point advantage, 2-8 to 0-9, with 20 minutes to go.
Treacy added his second major 12 minutes from the end to spark the Cuala celebrations.
