All-Ireland winning manager PJ O'Mullan has stepped down after six years in charge of Loughgiel Shamrocks.

During his time at the helm, O'Mullan led his club to four Antrim SHCs, four Ulster club crowns and the 2012 All-Ireland senior club hurling championship. He decided to step down following Sunday's Antrim semi-final loss to holders Cushendall in Dunloy.

"I just think it needs a fresh voice," he comments in The Irish News. "I love this club. They've taught me an awful lot. They have been some of the best days of my life. I've just had so many good days with them but I feel that the time is right.

"I don't have all the answers. I did my best. I'm happy with what I got out of the players. I just think something different might give the players the impetus to go on and win more things.

"It's the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I'm heartbroken. But it's time to move on."
