Rising Mayo football star Tommy Conroy buried the All-Ireland minor football medal he won in 2013 with his father last week.

Mick Conroy died tragically on St. Stephen's Day after a long battle with depression, something which his son spoke bravely about at his funeral Mass.

Tommy, who was one of the stars of the All-Ireland minor final victory over Tyrone, is quoted in the Western People as saying: "Dad was the most generous, loving, caring man you have wished for and we were so lucky to have him and call him our dad.

"He was a family man through and through, but at 17 he had been struck down with an illness with no cure - only drugs and willpower were required for survival. He wasn't a quitter, he fought through and always put everyone else first."
