In what is believed to be a first for the GAA, Ballinderry's Aaron Devlin has been banned for comments he made on social media about match officials in the wake of his side's controversial Derry SFC final defeat to Slaughtneil last month.

Devlin was handed a 48-week suspension along with team-mates Gareth McKinless and Michael Conlan. Like Devlin, McKinless is a current county footballer, while Conlan kept goal for Derry for many years.

In addition, Collie Devlin and James Conway, who have also worn the Derry jersey, have been hit with one-match championship suspensions, while Ballinderry's pitch has been closed to adult activity for one year.

The Shamrocks are expected to appeal the suspensions.
